The original flight from Osaka was due to leave at 7pm but was cancelled and they booked me on to the 6pm flight, which had already been delayed to 7-40.
Unfortunately this plane was late in from Hong Kong and it was closer to 8 before we were boarding and
then had to wait for a take off slot till nearly 9.
My 2 hour transit time was rapidly disappearing. The on board staff were helpful and assured me that ground staff would be waiting and that there was another London flight and hour later as a back up. I was also worried that being in row 74 it would take 10 or 15 minutes to get out of the plane.
As it turned out there was a lady waiting and myself and another london passenger fllowed her break neck paced walk through the airport weaving through people to get to our original flight just as last call was given. The flight to London was un eventful although long and I watch a flim, had 3 hours solid sleep and another 3 of patchy sleep and we arrived on time.
Unfortunately there was not enough time to get my bags on my flight, not it seems the one after. About 5 names were on the notice board to contact baggage services and fill in the forms. They expected it to arrive in the afternoon, so with no bag to pick up, i was out through customs with more than enough time to make the earlier bus to Birmingham.
I also got some money and bought a sim card. The bus arrived at the airport and Sylvia had arrived a few minutes earlier.
After lunch she took me on a tour of Worcester. It is a lovely town set on a River with a Cathedral
Near the cathedral is a gate, the remnants of the city walls with wooden doors installed by King John.
The cathedral is quite magnificent and has statues and plaques of worthies who are buried there dating back to 15th century
WE then walked to the oldest street in town and visited Greyfriars, a national trust house. Sylvia has just joined that and another organisation and this was her first use of her card.
We did the English thing and had scones with jam and cream and hot drinks (a chocolate for me) in the garden there.
I did not know Sylvia's address or my own mobile when I filled in the form and after leaving many messages on the answering service and sending emails, I eventually got a call from Cathay around 8pm to say my bags had arrived and would be delivered on Thursday, and that they had the address.
However when I contacted the number they gave me on Thursday morning, I was told they had no paper work from Cathay.
I had planned to change into my tracksuit before checking my nags in Osaka but it was too warm so I had a spare set of underwear, a clean shirt and the TS as well as the clothes I was wearing.
I changed before we landed and Sylvia put the clothes i was wearing in to her washer that night. Unfortunately when she turned the dryer on the power went out. It was also too clever to let you open the door. It was well after I'd gone to bed that she took the top off, found a bare wire which she fixed and manually freed the latch.
In the morning, after a few test runs, we risked drying my clothes, so I am now in clean clothes and ready to explore more of the area.
